September Welcome Letter

We hope you have all had a wonderful, restful summer holiday and are now ready for lots of fun learning in F2. Below is some important information about the key routines which occur in Cedar Class.


Entering the classroom in the morning: Please ensure that your child lines up on the red line in the playground. At 8.35 the children will be greeted and led into school.

Water Bottles: Please ensure that your child brings a clearly labelled water bottle to school at the beginning of each week. This ensures that they have access to drinking water at all times. Bottles will be re-filled daily and sent home every Friday. Please note that only water is permitted in school, both in water bottles and at lunchtime with packed lunches.

P.E: Cedar Class will have PE every Monday morning. Please send your child to school in their PE kit every Monday instead of school uniform. The children will stay in their kit for the remainder of the day. Children are required to wear navy or black shorts/joggers, a white t-shirt and black trainers or plimsolls.

School Uniform: Could you please ensure your child’s school uniform and PE kit are clearly labelled with their name. It is impossible to return mislaid items of uniform if they are not clearly labelled.

Communication with Parents: Messages will mainly be sent out via MarvellousMe (please ensure you have the app downloaded), although we will send letters, emails and texts out as necessary. Also check the school’s website on a regular basis - you will find information on there about a wide range of things including: our class, diary dates, school policies and the children can access curriculum games and websites which will add to their learning in school.

Reading Books:  In Cedar class, reading books are issued and changed weekly, on Thursdays. Parents/carers are encouraged to read with their child regularly.  We would appreciate your support with this and recommend that you spend some time at least three times a week reading with your child. Even a snatched five minutes is better than nothing! Please record each read in your child’s personal organiser on the relevant day, noting the book title and page number you and your child have read to. Feel free also to write a comment. It is important to share the same book with your child over several days, so they can create their own narrative, adapt the story, make predictions, learn the keywords and for you to ask comprehension questions when finished.

Personal Organisers:  At the front and back of your child’s organiser are some pages which we kindly ask that you sign.  If you leave a message in your child’s personal organiser or book bag please ensure that either you or your child brings this to my attention as neither are checked on a daily basis.
